Andy St. Clair: Wanted Man

Wrigleyville – The free agent status of People of Earth ensemble player Andy St. Clair seems to have been resolved, with an 11th hour move by Lincoln Park Trixies GM Peter Gwinn officially adding Mr. St. Clair to his roster on April 28th. Roscoe Village GM Charna Halpern, who tried to sign St. Clair weeks ago but was unable to due so because of salary cap restrictions, has threatened actions via the IFL Board of Directors, which doesn't exist.

As a member of People of Earth, St. Clair's salary cap point total was five. At the time of the draft Halpern had used 26 points after adding eight players. Miss Halpern talked of demoting St. Clair to Harold team Metropolis (a two point team) in order to fit him under the 30 point salary cap, but her plan did not come to fruition. After jettisioning another player from her roster, Halpern tried to draft St. Clair over the weekend but was too late, as machiavellian GM Peter Gwinn had already signed St. Clair.

IFL Commissioner, and Miss Halpern's employee, Decautur Hilltop Griggs, had this to say "There are procedures and regulations that Miss Halpern refused to abide by. Mr. Gwinn followed those and was awarded the contract of Mr. St. Clair. Miss Halpern is toying with the idea of asking for a vote of no confidence. She will be severely disappointed if she does so." Miss Halpern repeatedly called Commissioner Griggs on his cell phone on Sunday afternoon after the signing took place, and even called Griggs out of the ImprovOlympic class he was teaching at the time to make her displeasure known.

GM Reactions

Reactions around the league to the St. Clair controversy have been mixed. Schaumburg GM Nick Kanel was quoted as saying "The stress that some GM's put on their teams is horrible. The fear of getting dropped or traded – torturing poor Andy St. Clair like that – it's just not right, not knowing where you'll find a home. When people are signed to my team they are secure. We have an excellent program and a healthy farm system. Secure players = superb performances." Several hours later, a visibly drunk Kanel added "And who cares anyway, Gwinn, Charna, St. Clair . . . none of them would even be waterboys on my team."
